Why You Shouldn't Root for the Canucks

Remember when Vancouver was on the cusp of winning the Stanley Cup and end Canada's drought in 2011? All they had to do was beat the Bruins at home and seal the deal. Instead, they choked and Vancouver residents rioted, breaking every store window imaginable.

Ever since that fateful riot, it's been all downhill from there. Excluding the 2020 season where almost every team got into the postseason, Vancouver last made the playoffs in 2014-2015. They've sucked ever since and show no signs of getting better.

What's even worse is they're one of the more valuable NHL teams at $825 million. There's no excuse for the Canucks to be awful. Instead, they're the Washington Commanders of the NHL, only without the sexual misconduct and hatred for the fans. Vancouver's never winning a Stanley Cup no matter how close they get.

You can even say that the Seattle Kraken, their geographical rival, will get a Stanley Cup before the Canucks. Why? Because they're based in the United States, and everyone knows how much Gary Bettman hates Canada. C'mon, he won't even budge the Arizona Coyotes and move them to Quebec City!

Understand this: no Canadian team has won the Stanley Cup since 1993 (Montreal). That's not because of Bettman. It's because sorry organizations like Vancouver don't ante up and get the best players out there. When your national sport is hockey, you expect to win at least three or four Stanley Cups in almost three decades. But that's not the case, and the Canucks aren't doing Canadian hockey fans any favors.
